Abu Dhabi Big Ticket: Chengannur native Sreenu and 21 friends to share Rs 28 crore
Abu Dhabi: Every month, the Abu Dhabi Duty Free Big Ticket Bumper Draw make new millionaires. Majority of the winners buy the ticket alone or with a few friends. But this time, the first prize of the draw held on November 3 has brought luck to 22 families of which 20 are Malayalis.
Chengannur native Sreenu Sreedharan Nair who is working in a private firm in Jebel Ali in Dubai hit the jackpot worth 15 lakh Dirhams (approximately Rs 28.87 crore). The 28-year-old had bought the ticket along with 21 friends working in the same company.
The ticket price of 500 Dirhams was shared between all friends. Each one spent 22.72 Dirhams and the ticket was bought in the name of Sreenu. Ticket number 098165 won the first prize.
If the prize money is equally divided between the friends, each one will get around Rs 1.32 crore. Among the 22 friends, a Tamil Nadu native and a Karnataka native also figure in the group of 20 Malayalis.
Everyone is surprised on knowing that they hit the jackpot, Sreenu said. They have been buying Duty Free tickets regularly for 16 months. Sreenu has been working in UAE for more than 6 years. But he has no plans to return to his place after hitting the jackpot.
All 22 friends are working in two different shifts and they could not celebrate the victory together. So, they are planning to celebrate it on Friday, Sreenu said. Hailing from Chengannur, Sreenu is son of Sreedharan Nair and Indira.
