Air fare on a high for domestic flights; Delhi-Mumbai flight ticket to cost double

Kozhikode: Several flight companies have doubled charges of domestic flight services. Regular domestic passengers, especially those travelling to Delhi and Mumbai, will find the revised rate unbearable.

A considerable change has been observed in the new rates of IndiGo, Air India and Air India Express flights from Karipur and Kannur airports. The direct flight charge to Delhi from Kozhikode will be from Rs 8000 to Rs 9000. Earlier, it was priced only below Rs 5000. At least Rs 22,000 will be the cost if the passenger resorts to connecting flights.

The direct Air India flight to Mumbai from Kozhikode will cost Rs 6500, while the flights via Bengaluru and Hyderabad will be charged Rs 8000 and Rs 11,000 respectively. The rates will vary according to different classes.

The revamped prices will affect passengers who book flight tickets on short notice for immediate plans. The rates will remain low while booking tickets months in advance. The surge in ticket prices is caused by less number of flights available for domestic services. Last time the flight charges were increased to overcome the financial burden caused by Covid 19. The new change in price along with this may adversely affect domestic tourism also.
