Thiruvananthapuram: Cost of curd, butter milk and lassi sold in packets will hike from Monday with the enforcement of five per cent Goods and Services Tax for these items. A half litre curd packet of Milma will witness an increase of Rs 3 to Rs 5 in the retail price.

Quantity of butter milk and lassi will be reduced to maintain the current price.

Milma’s programme committee summoned in the last week had already decided to escalate the price of products, in view of the GST induction. The Milma authorities informed that the company cannot sell curd by incurring loss as the price of the milk remains unaffected.

In Kerala, Milma’s curd has a high demand compared to milk. At present, Milma sells nearly 1 lakh litre curd in Kerala through the Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam and Malabar unions. The production of lassi and butter milk are comparatively low.

By reducing 25 gram from the 525 gram curd packet, Kozhikode union of Milma will maintain the price at Rs 30 for curd.
