Thrissur: Kerala has received Rs 26,501 crore as GST compensation from the union government. Kerala was expected to receive large amount as compensation being a consumer state but came in the fifth position. Maharashtra, Karnataka, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu came in the first four positions respectively. Although Kerala is a consumer state, the population is less compared to other states which led to fewer trades and low GST compensation amount.
Many states are seeking the extension of compensation for three more years that was given for five years since the introduction of GST.
