Kochi: Industries minister P Rajeev expressed hope that the number of new enterprises in this financial year will cross 1.5 lakh. The government had announced this financial year as the ‘Year of Enterprises’ with an aim to start one lakh enterprises within the period. This number was achieved in eight months.

The project was recognised as a best practice model at the Chief Secretaries National Conference, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

As part of the project, over 1.22 lakh new enterprises have opened in the state so far this year. This has resulted in an investment of Rs 7,463 crore and provided 2.63 lakh jobs. Of the 1.22 lakh enterprises, 39,282 are run by women.

Rajeev stated that efforts will be made to increase the success rate of newly setup enterprises and to take at least 1,000 ventures to the next level.

The minister added that opportunities will be provided to help entrepreneurs scale up their projects. He said that the industrial conclave to be held in Kochi on January 21 is a part of this. Support will be ensured in marketing, technical support and finance, he said.

He further said that ‘mentoring’ support will be provided to new entrepreneurs with the help of successful entrepreneurs.
