Thiruvananthapuram: The fines for the traffic rule violations captured by the surveillance cameras of the Motor Vehicle Department will have to be paid through Vahan portal only. Earlier, the public could pay fines through the old website, ‘Smart Web’, of the department or directly at the office.

The fine can be paid through online portals E-Challan and Vahan. The details of payment will be received through notice or SMS. All the current records of traffic rule violations have been transferred to the pan India portal Vahan.

The person who received the notice has to contact the office which issued the notice and report the vehicle’s number. Soon, a username and password will be sent to the registered phone number, which shall be used to access the Vahan portal.

A vehicle which falls in the blacklist cannot obtain services, even from other states without settling the fine amount.

Each fine amount has to be settled separately. In other states, a user charge is also being incurred for each transaction.
