Kochi: The sale of electric vehicles (EV) is soaring up in Kerala. As per data, 39,540 EVs were registered across the state in 2022, while the numbers were only 8,701 in 2021.
In 2020, a total of 1,325 EVs were registered in the state.
Reportedly, people are shifting to electric vehicles based on the conviction that they will be in demand in coming years.
Given the current fuel prices, purchasing an electric vehicle has become more profitable. In addition, the provision of subsidies has also raised the acceptability of EVs among people.
However, the absence of enough public charging points pose a major challenge for EV owners.
Meanwhile, the sales of CNG vehicles are also increasing robustly. A total of 2,805 CNG registrations were made in 2021, while around 9,855 were made last year.
In 2022, a sum of 7,83,154 vehicles, including 6,61,148 petrol vehicles and 55,894 diesel vehicles, were registered across all categories in the state.
