Kollam: The central government has released a notification enforcing the e-way bill for carrying gold. Once the Kerala government decides the conditions and releases the notification, the law will come into effect in the state. The state has been raising the need for the bill for years to put an end to illegal smuggling of gold.

The government was delaying approval of the e-way bill stating security issues. It was pointed out as a reason that collecting the registration number of the vehicle carrying gold is not a safe way to go.

Currently, e-way bill is mandatory and is being imposed for all goods worth more than Rs 50,000. The details of the goods must be uploaded on two forms namely Part A and Part B on the GST portal. Only part B seeks the details of the vehicle including registration number. According to the notification released, to overcome the security threat, only part A needs to be filled. This will ensure that there is no breach of privacy and security of vehicles.

It is expected that by implementing the bill, tax evasion can be checked properly.
