Kochi: Keralites consume about 5 lakh litres of liquor a day. The same quantity of beer and 3000 litres of wine also are consumed by Malayalis. This data was obtained from the Beverage Corporation through RTI by Proper channel president M K Haridas from Kochi.

The liquor was sold through 265 outlets of Beverages, outlets of Consumer Fed and 740 bars. Although 94.22 crore litres of liquor was sold in five years, it is not clear how much profit the government received from it.

A profit of Rs 85.93 crore was recieved in 2016-17 and Rs 100.54 crore in 2017-18. The profit for the rest of the year is being calculated.

Liquor sold by Beverages Corporation from May 2016 to May 2021 (litre):

Liquor - 94,22,54,386.08

Beer - 42,23,86,768.35

Wine - 55,57,065.53
