Kochi: Former Kochi Mayor Tony Chammany has alleged that Zonta Infratech, the biomining contract company in Brahmapuram, had attempted to influence him and the company’s managing director Rajkumar Chellappan Pillai asked him to withdraw the allegations promising to give anything in return.
“The company tried to influence me. As I didn’t yield to their terms, I thought there was no need to reveal the matter in public. However, with Zonta’s MD questioning my credibility in front of the media, I wish to tell the facts,” Chammany said.
He further added that a former film producer, a close friend of an ex-MP in Malabar, demanded to meet him. Although Chammany discouraged him initially, he later met him following repeated requests.
“At first, he (producer) justified the company. Later, when I convinced him otherwise, with the help of the documents in my possession, he dialled Chellappan and tried to influence me,” he said.
“I was the Mayor till October 31, 2015. The agreement with GJ Eco Power was signed in February 2016. I was not the Mayor at the time. Then how can I root for them,” Chammany asked.
Terming the issue as a “CPM capsule” to insult those levelling allegations, Chammany said, “I had earlier explained the kinship background of Zonta Infratech. The LDF government would have naturally helped such a company to get the contract.”
