Kannur: A youth had to travel 360 kms to marry his fiancée, whom he got engaged five months ago. Rineesh, a lorry driver, travelled all the way from the border of Mysuru- Kodagu in Karnataka to marry Sasikala. Rineesh is son of Poyyur natives Rajan and Kausu. He reached the house of one of his relatives, which is near the bride’s home, on Wednesday via Muthanga check post. On Thursday, they got married as per customs in the bride’s land.
Their marriage was fixed by the families before the spread of the pandemic. However, it got delayed following the transmission of the disease. It was during their conversations over phone that Rineesh decided to marry Sasikala, even if that meant travelling alone to Karnataka. Rineesh’s family and friends did not travel with him as they were scared of being quarantined.
After the wedding, the bride’s family accompanied the couple to Muthanga check post.
When they reached Rineesh’s home, the family lighted a lamp to greet them and then stayed at a distance. The family and others blessed them from a distance. The couple have started their 14- day quarantine period, as per protocol.
