Nilambur: On Monday, the police arrested Muhammad Shan (30) in connection with the murder of Ridhan Basil (28), who was accused in a drug case. Shan was a friend of Basil and both were natives of Edavanna, Malappuram.

Shan confessed to committing the murder out of personal animosity towards Ridhan Basil, according to the police. He had been under interrogation for the last two days. Another person who was also quizzed in connection to the case has been released, under the condition that they must appear before the police whenever summoned.

Reportedly, Basil had gone out with Shan on the night of the murder. He was later found dead under mysterious circumstances on top of Chembakuth hill on Saturday morning at 9 o'clock, and had three gunshot wounds on his chest.

Meanwhile, investigation is underway to nab those involved in the drug smuggling case. Basil, an accused in an ongoing drug case, was released on bail a week before. He had earlier stated that some people had trapped him in the case.

Also, the police have received hints about the gun used for murder. Police surveillance has also been beefed up at the house of the accused.
