Youth makes false marriage proposal, embezzles Rs 30 lakh after duping as IAS trainee, arrested

Mulanthuruthy: A youth was nabbed for embezzling Rs 30 lakh from a woman after duping as an IAS trainee and making false promise of marriage.

The accused Mohammed Ajmal, 28, of Punnapra in Alappuzha was arrested from Hyderabad. The accused made the false marriage proposal hiding that he was already married.

Ajmal met Arayankavu native during a train journey and introduced himself as an IAS trainee. He also said that he was undertaking training at the Civil Service Academy in Mussoorie.

After getting close to the woman, Ajmal promised to marry her. She introduced him to her parents as well. Following this, he started asking money from her citing expenses for studies and received Rs 30 lakh on several occasions. The money was sent from the account of the complainant’s father.

The accused kept on asking money. When the woman’s family became unable to pay further, he stopped contacting her. He was residing in North Indian states by switching off his mobile phone.

The family was forced to lodge a complaint when they could not contact him anymore.
