Youth falls to death while alighting from moving train in Malappuram

Malappuram: A 22-year-old youth was crushed to death by the Puducherry-Mangalore Express at Tirur railway station here on Sunday. The deceased was identified as Elamkoor native Mahesh.

The tragic incident took place in the wee hours of Sunday. It is reported that he slipped from the footboard while alighting from the moving train. Mahesh who was working as an electric supervisor at MRF Tyres in Tiruchirappalli in Tamil Nadu boarded the Puducherry-Mangalore Express from Pothanur.

It is suspected that Mahesh did not identify the station when the train halted at Tirur. When the train started moving at 4.58 am from Tirur railway station, he rushed to the door to alight. But he fell under the train after losing balance and was crushed under the wheels.

His last rites were performed at his residence here. He is survived by his father Sathya Kumar, mother Sunitha and sister Manjitha.
