Youth dies in police custody in Kasaragod
Kasaragod: A youth picked up by the police for allegedly drinking liquor in a public place, died in police custody here on Friday.
Sandeep, son of Chowki native Keshava, and four others were taken into custody by the police on a complaint that the men were drinking liquor in a public place.
Sandeep had asked for water while going to the police station. As Sandeep showed uneasiness, the police admitted him to the General hospital.
Sandeep's brother Deepak alleged that police torture resulted in his brother's death. Deepak also said that the police kicked Sandeep inside the jeep.
The body has been taken to Pariyaram Medical College for post-mortem.
BJP activists staged a blockade in front of the police station in protest against the incident.
Sandeep was a BMS activist.
The BJP has called for a hartal in Kasaragod district on Saturday to protest against the incident.
