Thiruvananthapuram: The state government has granted Rs 18 lakh to Kerala State Youth Commission (KSYC), responding to its demand for an additional fund of Rs 26 lakh.
KSYC reportedly sought the fund to cover expenses, including the salaries of employees and members, honorarium, surrender of earned leaves, provident fund loan and travel allowance.
The expenses also include salary arrears of KSYC chairperson Chintha Jerome, said reports. It may be noted that the salary arrears of Chintha, amounting to Rs 8.50 lakhs have not been paid yet despite the government order.
Earlier, KSYC secretary had informed the government that the Commission completely spent Rs 76.06 lakh, allotted in the budget as salary allocation. Following this, an additional Rs 9 lakh was granted.
Later, the secretary informed the government that the Rs 8,45,000 from the newly allocated Rs 9 lakh was spent on the salary and honorarium of employees for the month of December. KSYC also sought Rs 26 lakh for meeting expenses.
Although the commission demanded a total of Rs 26 lakh, only Rs 18 lakh was granted by the government in the wake of the ongoing financial crisis.
