Young hockey player paralysed for 6 months, seeks help
Kollam: University hockey player Shifas regained his memory after 45 days from the day of the bike accident. He was taken back to his playing days immediately. He remembered the goal that he scored against Maharastra while playing for the state team at Bhopal Hockey Stadium.
On May 20, Shifas was pillion driving his friend Rajesh’s bike when they were smashed by a car. From that day, Shifas was bedridden for over 7 months. Even though Rajesh passed away in the accident, Shifas was not told about this.
His treatment was taken care of by his hockey teammates, friends from SN college and his coach Ravi Varma. Doctors claim that if treated, he can get his mobility back. His economically backward family does not know what to do. 26- year- old Shifas is the son of Kilikollur natives Shahjahan and Asoora.
His mother spends all her time by his side. The small house may be attached anytime as they have not repaid the loans taken from District Cooperation Banks. The hockey Association had given him a temporary job owing to his passion for hockey. The accident took place four months after he was given the job.
“We don’t have any money. We do not need any money either. I Just want to see my son walk. I want to see him get down to the play ground,” says Asoora. They are looking for help from kind hearted persons to take him to Vellore for treatment.
Shifas developed a passion for hockey when he was studying in his fifth standard at Koyikkal Government VHSS. Later, he was part of the state school team, Kerala University team and State hockey camp. He played as mid fielder and a forward.
Shifas is a fan of Olympian Sardar Singh. He still gets excited watching Sardar Singh’s sweet shot in his mobile phone. With teary eyes, he wonders whether he will be able pad up again.
