Yechury, CPM leaders pay homage to Kodiyeri

Thiruvananthapuram: CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury paid homage to Kodiyeri Balakrishnan who passed away on Saturday. The CPM veteran breathed his last while undergoing treatment in Chennai.

Taking to Twitter, Yechury expressed his grief over the death of Kodiyeri and paid tributes to him.

“Deeply mourn the passing away of Comrade Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, a longstanding comrade in arms, Polit bureau member, steadfast communist, ardent champion of the toiling people and relentlessly working for social transformation of Indian society that is free from exploitation,” tweeted Yechury.

“He uncompromisingly fought against sectarian and religious bigotry, respecting equality for all, justice and emancipation. His balanced approach and affable demeanour has weathered many a crisis. Farewell, dear Comrade Kodiyeri,” he added.

Kerala Assembly speaker AN Shamseer has mourned the demise of senior CPM leader Kodiyeri Balakrishnan. Taking to his Facebook page, Shamseer penned a heartfelt note paying homage to the CPM veteran.

"Gone from our sight, but never from our hearts. Adieu Dear Balakrishnetta", wrote Shamseer on his Facebook page.

Kerala CPM leaders including ministers PA Muhammad Riyas, V Sivankutty, Veena George, P Rajeev and others also paid tribute to Kodiyeri through social media.
