Thrissur: In an intriguing turn of events, X-ray of two vehicle-hit dogs showed the presence of gun pellets in their body during the veterinary examination at University Veterinary Hospital in Thrissur’s Mannuthy. Interestingly, the two dogs are from different regions. Police have initiated a probe.
On July 18, the dogs got injured in two separate road accidents at Palakkad and Guruvayur and were brought to the centre here. The X-ray revealed that both had air gun pellets inside their body.
The dog from Palakkad soon succumbed while the other dog is undergoing treatment at the centre.
The dogs were brought by a social worker named Pradeep Payyur, who is involved in dog rescues. According to him, earlier too, pellets were spotted inside the dogs he rescued from the road. However, he did not feel anything suspicious about it. But this time, he realised a pattern and reported it to the authorities concerned.
The intelligence department is probing whether dogs were used as 'target objects' for shooting training. The state has earlier reported stabbing incidents similarly which were suspected to be part of ‘training’ of certain groups on using machetes.
