Thiruvananthapuram: As part of efforts to implement the ‘Work Near Home’ project which was announced in the budget, Kerala finance minister KN Balagopal visited Zoho Corporation and met with its CEO, Sridhar Vembu, in Tenkasi. The minister also visited Zoho schools that offer training in computer programming for plus students in Mathalamparai, Tenkasi.
Zoho Corporation is credited with successfully implementing the ‘work near home’ model even before companies began opting for ‘work from home’ during the pandemic. The method is to set up offices in rural areas and let the employees work from there. Majority of the employees would be residents of nearby areas.
As per reports, Sridhar Vembu has assured to cooperate with the state government’s ‘work near home’ project and the latter is gearing up to initiate similar projects based on Zoho’s Tenkasi model. The aim is to create around one lakh job opportunities through ‘work near home’ facilities, within three years.
Recently, Sridhar Vembu had announced the setting up of an office in Thiruvananthapuram. The company’s goal is to attract students to the IT sector by providing them two-year training in skill development.
Meanwhile, Minister Balagopal told ‘Mathrubhumi’ that work near home is a futuristic project and can be successfully implemented in Kerala.
