Kozhikode: CPI state secretary Kanam Ranjendran on Saturday said that the government will intervene in the Alappad sand mining issue and it won’t allow anyone to hijack the protest. Government will stand by the people. The demand of protesters was to hold discussion after mining was stopped, said Kanam to media persons at Kozhikode.
Earlier, minister J Mercykutty Amma had stated that the government was ready to hold discussion with the protestors. The government won’t allow unscientific mining. The issue will be rsolved smoothly after considerations with the Environment Committee of the Legislative Assembly. The government will intervene and resolve the issue at an apt time, said Kanam.
The Environment Committee of the legislative assembly has conducted a study at Alappad. The Industries minister said that an initiative will be taken to hold a discussion at the industrial department level. The committee has recommended how mining has to be done there. If locals raise grievances, a discussion will be needed in the issue, added the CPI state secretary.
It is the LDF which took decision to give Rs 5000 to labourers of Comtrust every month. However, Minister EP Jayarajan had opined that the move was wrong. But that would be his personal view, said Kanam.
