Women should not be allowed to trek Sabarimala, opines Melsanthi Vasudevan Namboodiri


Responding to a question, Namboodiri said that the previous year witnessed very rare incidents and left him devastated that women arrived till the nadapanthal.

Pampa: Sabarimala melsanthi (head priest) V.N. Vasudevan Namboodiri opined that women shouldn’t trek Sabarimala Ayyappa temple. Talking to Mathrubhumi News, He said that the traditions and rituals in the temple should be protected.

“The passing year was of many difficulties. I wish the traditions would be protected. There are also possibilities that women might enter the temple. Decisions should be made very carefully,” outgoing Melsanthi, V.N. Vasudevan Namboodiri said.

Responding to a question, Namboodiri said that the previous year witnessed very rare incidents and left him devastated that women arrived till the nadapanthal.

“Beliefs in Sabarimala are centuries old. The rituals and traditions in Sabarimala do not cause trouble to anyone. I am of the stance that they should be protected. No women between the age 10 to 50 should enter Sabarimala,” he further said.
