Kochi: Representation of women entrepreneurs mark an exceptional increase in the Responsible Tourism Mission of Kerala. 85 per cent of the 23,600 entrepreneurs registered to date are women. Over 19,000 businesswomen work all over the state under the Mission.
Responsible Tourism Mission aims to ensure the involvement of the regional population in the local tourism projects. Following the launch of the mission, there has been a considerable increase in the number of women entrepreneurs entering into the tourism sector understanding the employment opportunities of the sphere. The production units of handicrafts, paper bags, cloth bags, handloom, organic vegetables, value-added food products and other service units are mainly functioning under the guidance of women.
The small scale units are availing a profit of a minimum of Rs 8,000 monthly on average. The profit rate found hiking with the size of enterprises.
