Women, children victims of abuses to get Rs 1 lakh as aid
Thiruvananthapuram: The state government has approved the ‘Ashwasam scheme’, that provides financial aid to children and women who have been victims of various abuses. According to the new scheme, victims of acid attack, sexual abuse and other brutal crimes can get up to Rs 1 lakh as financial aid.
For the project implementation, permission to distribute Rs 3 crore under the scheme has been sanctioned, said KK Shailaja, minister for health and social justice. The new scheme was introduced in the wake of rising number of crimes against children and women based on the records of State Crime Records Bureau, added the minister.
The scheme also includes the victims of domestic violence and heinous gender discrimination. If such cases are registered or found, the respective district child protection officer and women protection officer have to file those cases to Nirbhaya Cell.
Under the scheme, victims of sexual abuses, rape, gang rape, unnatural sex, rape while being pregnant, loss of limps, loss of embryo due to accidents or sterility and victims of burns can receive financial aid up to Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh.
Victims of brutal domestic, mental and physical violence and children and women rescued from brothels can receive financial aid raging from Rs 25,000 to 50,000. Victims of acid attacks may get Rs 1 lakh to 2 lakhs as financial aid under the scheme.
