Woman suffering from burns dies on way to hospital after lorry rams on to ambulance
Thuravoor (Alapuzha): A woman, who had suffered burn injuries, died on the way to hospital in a road accident. Ahalyadevi, (32), daughter of Natarajan (Maniyappan) of Vechoor Ambika Market in Vaikom, died on Tuesday night.
The accident took place at 11 pm on the national highway near Aroor temple junction. Ahalya’s father Natarajan (63), uncle Dileep (52) and a relative Kiran (34) are under treatment at a private hospital after suffering injuries.
The accident occurred after the lorry on the way to Cherthala, braked suddenly, said Aroor police.
Ahalya was taken in another vehicle to the government hospital in Thuravoor, but couldn’t be saved. She has been staying separately from her husband Binoy, a Aranmula native.
Ahalya suffered burn injuries at her mother’s house in Thaneermukkam. She was soon taken to Cherthala KVM hospital and to Ernakulam medical centre and then to Ernakulam general hospital. From general hospital, she was referred to Vandanam Medical College as her condition was serious. The accident occurred on the way to the medical college.
She was thrown away from the stretcher in the impact of the collision with her head hitting the ambulance body.
The body was handed over to relatives after post-mortem. She is also survived by mother Ushakumari and daughter Liya (6).
