Woman on scooter attacked by man on bike; alleges police did not respond to distress call

Thiruvananthapuram: A government employee who was walking home after evening class at engineering college was attacked by a man on a bike. The woman alleged that the police did not offer any help even after she contacted them for help.

Chithara native was attacked on Wednesday at 9.30 pm near Keezhayikonam in Venjaramoodu. The man on the bike tried to attack her, but she somehow escaped on her scooter. Though she contacted the police control room and sought help, no one came to her rescue.

The man tried to attack her and get hold of her near Vamanapuram bridge and Aramthanam. He escaped after seeing several youngsters coming in the opposite direction. They followed her and helped her reach home safely.

The woman’s family filed a complaint with the Venjaramoodu police that night, but the case was registered only by Thursday evening.

Venjaramoodu police said that the police arrived following the woman’s distress call and that an investigation has been started into the matter.
