Woman, kids allege attack by evictor who bought land in auction


Jospeh of Pattikkad, who brought the land through bank auction, came to the spot with earth movers to evict the family. However, the woman and her children opposed it.

Pattikkad: A women and her two children were injured in a melee after a man who bought a piece of land formerly owned by the family through bank auction came to evict them.

The three were identified as Lyfi (42) wife of Hochimin of Pattikkad, her daughter Aleena (17) and son Alfin (21). They sought treatment at the Thrissur General Hospital.

The incident took place at 4 pm on Saturday. Jospeh of Pattikkad, who brought the land through bank auction, came to the spot with earth movers to evict the family. However, the woman and her children opposed it.

When Joseph tried to use force and fill the land with soil using earth movers, the three laid down in front of the machines in protest. Meanwhile, Joseph filled a well in the plot with soil and also damaged a water tank.

Lyfi later filed a complaint with the Peechi police stating that goons attacked her and filled her land using force.

Lyfi and family owned 20 cents of land in which they had built their house. The bank had auctioned 5 cents from this plot, which Joseph had bought.

Lyfi had taken a loan from a cooperative bank 35 years ago by pledging the land. Due to non-payment, the bank auctioned the land.

The bank officials had come to the spot to estimate the land and mark boundaries. However, Lyfi and family opposed it and the bank officials returned without completing the task.
