Woman, infant fall into track while deboarding from running train at Tirur station, escape unhurt

Tirur: A woman and an infant who fell onto the track while deboarding a running train had a miraculous escape at the railway station here. The woman fell into the gap between the train and the platform with her sister’s child.

The incident took place at around 10:20 pm on Sunday.

Liyana Fathima and her sister’s 1.5-year-old son Muhammad Alvin were travelling to Koyilandy on the Alappuzha-Kannur Express. A member of her family got down at Kuttippuram railway station to fetch water and left a mobile phone at a shop. They got down at Tirur to go back and get the phone. When Maveli Express arrived, Liyana boarded the train with the child but other family members could not get in.

Liyana jumped out of the train after realising this but fell onto the track. Passengers inside the train pulled the chain and the train’s pointsman showed the red flag following which the train stopped. The RPF and passenders in the station rescued the woman and the child.

Recently, a woman passenger who attempted to board a running train at Tirur station also had a narrow escape from a fatal accident. A Railway Protection Force officer who was present at the spot rushed to stop her from falling onto the track.
