Kakkanad: A 22-year-old woman was found dead in an apartment at Kakkanad in Ernakulam while her friend was found in critical condition after cutting his arm. The deceased Kozhikode- Thalakulathoor native K Vaishnavi was found dead in the bedroom of the apartment on Friday at around 9.30 am. Idukki native Alex Jacob, 24, who was staying with her, has been rushed to Kalamassery Medical College hospital.
Chandrabose, an employee of the water authority, had found the duo when he reached a nearby apartment to take the meter reading. He rushed to the scene after hearing the screams and passed information to Thrikkakara police. According to police, Vaishnavi had died before they reached the spot. The police shifted Alex to hospital.
The neighbours said that Vaishnavi and Alex, who were friends, had started residing in this apartment only three weeks ago. Both of them were working in Kochi.
Alex informed the police that he cut his vein after finding Vaishnavi hanging in the bedroom. However, the cause of suicide could not be inferred.
A detailed investigation will be initiated after getting the postmortem report, said police. Vaishnavi’s body is currently kept at Kalamassery Medical College.
