Aswathy Achu

Poovar: The police have arrested Aswathy Achu, a 39-year-old resident of Vayalikada in Thiruvananthapuram, for allegedly embezzling money from a retired bank employee under the false promise of marriage. Achu, originally from Kollam, was also a suspect in another case involving the honey trapping of police officers.

The accused allegedly approached the complainant offering to take care of his disabled daughter, and eventually promised to marry him. The 66-year-old retired bank employee gave her Rs 25,000 to settle her debts, and another Rs 15,000 under the pretext of expenses for registering their marriage.

Aswathy and the complainant had visited a document writer's office to prepare for the registration of their marriage, but she fled the scene, claiming that she did not have her photograph with her.
