Woman attacked in Punalur Express; suffers injury after falling from train


The incident took place at Olippuram on Wednesday morning, Mulanthuruthy SI told mathrubhumi.com. The woman who works as clerk in a school in Chengannur was alone inside the ladies’ compartment of the train.

Kochi: A woman was attacked inside Guruvayur-Punalur Express by an anonymous person. The woman hailing from Mulanthuruthy was attacked and her gold ornaments were robbed. As she fell off the train and suffered injuries, she was admitted to Ernakulam Medical Trust Hospital.

The incident took place at Olippuram on Wednesday morning, Mulanthuruthy SI told mathrubhumi.com. The woman who works as clerk in a school in Chengannur was alone inside the ladies’ compartment of the train.

After the train left Mulanthuruthy station, a man looking like a beggar approached the woman and threatened her with a screw driver. First, he robbed her gold ornaments and then tried to attack her. With this, she tried to escape and fell, the police said.

However, it is not confirmed if the woman was shoved off the train or she jumped out in order to escape from the man. As the incident took place inside the train, the Railway Police charged the case. The woman’s injuries are not fatal, Mulanthuruthy police informed.
