Varkala: A young woman died after falling down from the terrace of a three-storey apartment in Edava here. The 6-month-old baby girl who also fell down had a miraculous escape from the mishap.

The deceased is identified as Nima (26), daughter of Edava native Mukthar and Seenath who reside at Noorjalal Residency flat near Edava IOB. Nima’s only daughter Nifa escaped with minor injuries.

The incident took place on Thursday morning. Nima and daughter fell from the terrace of the flat where they were living. It is suspected that the baby fell down first and the woman fell while trying to rescue her.

When Nima’s mother and staff of a nearby shop came rushing to the spot on hearing sound, Nima and baby were found lying on the ground. Though both were rushed to a private hospital in Puthanchantha in Varkala, Nima’s life could not be saved.

The baby sustained only minor injuries as she fell on the pile of thermocol near a tyre shop on the flat premises. Nima sustained severe head injury in the fall.

Nima’s mother Seenath and sister Sulthana were present at the flat during the incident. Nima’s husband Abu Fazal is working Dubai. The body has been kept at Paripally medical college mortuary.
