With fewer tests Kerala reports 2,884 Covid cases on Monday; test positivity rate at 7.31

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala on Monday reported 2,884 new Covid cases, informed Health Minister K. K. Shailaja. The test positivity rate was recorded at 7.31 percent.

The district-wise statistics of positive cases: Malappuram – 560, Ernakulam – 393, Kozhikode – 292, Kottayam – 289, Alappuzha – 254, Thiruvananthapuram – 248, Kollam – 192, Thrissur – 173, Kannur – 135, Pathanamthitta – 107, Palakkad – 83, Wayanad – 70, Idukki – 44 and Kasaragod – 44.

Two of the UK returnees tested positive for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. So far, 84 UK returnees tested positive for the virus infection. 70 of them have recovered. 10 among the patients have been identified with the mutant virus strain.

39,463 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. The test positivity rate was at 7.31 percent. So far, 1,06,27,542 samples were tested across various priority groups.

13 deaths were confirmed due to Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. The total number of deaths in the state touched 3,998.

44 of the coronavirus patients came from outside the state. 2,651 people have contracted the virus through contact. The infection source of 165 persons remains unidentified.

The district-wise statistics of contact cases: Malappuram – 543, Ernakulam – 378, Kozhikode – 281, Kottayam – 279, Alappuzha – 250, Thiruvananthapuram – 176, Kollam – 190, Thrissur – 168, Kannur – 102, Pathanamthitta – 98, Palakkad – 39, Wayanad – 68, Idukki – 39 and Kasaragod – 40.

24 health workers also tested positive. Among them, 6 were from Thiruvananthapuram, 5 were from Kozhikode, 4 were from Kannur, 3 were from Ernakulam, 2 were from Malappuram and 1 was from Pathanamthitta, Thrissur, Palakkad and Wayanad.

5,073 recoveries were reported on Monday. The district-wise statistics of recoveries is: Thiruvananthapuram – 302, Kollam – 801, Pathanamthitta – 482, Alappuzha – 353, Kottayam – 489, Idukki – 104, Ernakulam – 502, Thrissur – 477, Palakkad – 174, Malappuram – 649, Kozhikode – 336, Wayanad – 104, Kannur – 231 and Kasaragod – 69.

There are 61,281 active Covid-19 cases in the state. 9,41,471 people have recovered from the disease. 2,50,724 people are currently under observation in the state. Out of this, 2,40,859 are under home/institutional quarantine and 9,865 people are in hospitals. 962 people were taken to hospitals on Monday.

No area was added to the hotspot list on Monday while 32 places were removed from the list. There are currently 428 hotspots in the state.
