With e-buses, KSRTC to reduce running cost per km from Rs 37 to Rs 20

KSRTC Electric Bus- Transport minister Antony Raju in his first E-bus trip

Thiruvananthapuram: The five vehicles in the first batch of the electric buses bought by KSRTC has arrived in Thiruvananthapuram city. It is learnt that in the long-run all the buses servicing in the city will be purely electrical. The switching will help KSRTC to reduce the running cost per kilometre.

At present the running cost per km of a diesel-powered vehicle is Rs 37. However, for electric bus it will be only Rs 20.

It may be noted that KSRTC earlier had purchased CNG buses to reduce the cost. However, within a year the rate of CNG witnessed a hike of almost double the rate making CNG buses unviable.

Additionally, these e-buses are sleek and can easily navigate through the city roads. A single charge can give a mileage of 120 km.

Transport minister Antony Raju said that a meeting will be convened by Chief Minister to deliberate over holistic development of KSRTC.
