Will not leave; Maradu flat owners respond to municipality’s eviction notice
Kochi: The owners of Maradu flats responded to the notice issued by Maradu municipality by stating that they are not willing to evict the building no matter what. The response to the municipal secretary’s notice was sent by the residents’ association of Kannadikkadu Golden Kayaloram. Apart from the notice of the association, owners of 12 other flats also issued notice separately.
The municipal secretary gave the notice to the flat owners on September 10 demanding to evict the flats. The notice will expire on Saturday. According to the law, 15 days’ time shall be allowed to evict any residential building. The flat owners pointed out that the municipality’s notice demanding to evict the flats in five days is in violation of rules.
Many political-social organisations came forward to support the flat owners on Friday. MLAs M. Swaraj, P. J. Joseph, Mahila Congress leader Lathika Subhash, BJP leader A. K. Naseer and others visited the place and offered support the flat owners.
Kodiyeri, Chennithala to visit on Saturday
CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala and BJP state general secretary A. N. Radhakrishnan will visit the place in support of the flat owners on Saturday. Chennithala will reach by 8 in the morning, while Kodiyeri will come at 10 in the morning and Radhakrishnan at 12 in the noon.
CPM mass protest on Saturday
A mass protest will be staged in front of the municipality demanding to protect the flat owners on Saturday at 10 am. Kodiyeri Balakrishnan will address the gathering at the event.
Congress march on Monday
A solidarity march will be conducted to the protest venue under the leadership of District Congress Committee demanding judicial probe into the matters including granting permission for the flat construction. AICC general secretary Oommen Chandy will inaugurate the march on Monday at 9 am.
