Kozhikode: The difference of opinion regarding the entry of IUML leader PK Kunhalikutty into the electoral fray continues within the UDF. While a section is of the opinion that he should stay away from the contest and take the responsibility of coordinating the statewide election campaigns, the other section believes his candidature will impart a newfound energy into the fray and to his fellow party members.
However, the final decision on the matter vests with the MP himself.
Kunhalikutty had returned to state politics as suggested by the UDF leadership for strengthening the front and the election campaign. Congress leadership was more in favour of the decision. The plan was to lead the election campaign and if UDF wins majority, he would become a minister and later an MLA through by-election. The resignation of MP post was to be taken accordingly.
But IUML state secretary KPA Majeed had said that if Kunhalikutty was returning to state politics, he might enter the fray resigning the MP post.
This led to a whole lot of confusion within the UDF.
