Idukki: After weeks of being absent from human settlements in Munnar, the wild tusker Padayappa has recently reemerged in the Chokanad Tea Estate, where it vandalised a ration shop.

The incident occurred on Tuesday night. According to Unni Mary, the wild tusker Padayappa damaged the door of the shop. Unni Mary further mentioned that this was not the first time Padayappa had attempted to vandalize the shutter, as it had made 19 previous attempts in the past.

Meanwhile, the locals said that wild tusker attacks have increased in the area during recent years. It is reported that Padayappa has been roaming in the Chokanad region for the past several days.

The tusker, suffering from age-related issues and a leg injury, was last sighted on May 17. Over the past two months, Padayappa had been regularly visiting the waste plant located in Kallar, presumably in search of food. Unfortunately, the recent decision made by the Munnar Panchayat to cease the supply of food to the elephant and erect a large gate in front of the plant compelled Padayappa to leave the area.
