Pathanamthitta: In a move aimed at promoting gender equality, the Administrative Reforms Commission (ARC) has directed various government departments to use the label ‘spouse’ instead of ‘wife’ in application forms.

The change will be made applicable to all government departments and public sector undertakings in the state.

As per the new direction, the clause ‘wife of…’ should be replaced by ‘spouse of…’ in the application forms.

In addition, it has also been directed to provide an option to include the mother's name as guardian by replacing ‘He/His’ with ‘He/She’, or ‘His/Her'.
