Whirlwind damages more than 1,000 banana plants in Thrissur locality

Thrissur: A sudden whirlwind on Saturday damaged more than 1,000 banana trees in the Thrissur locality.

The three-minute-long whirlwind affected areas like Koplippadam and Kodunga, lying near Vellikulangara in Kodakara here.

Apart from banana trees, other crops and trees were uprooted by the heavy wind. Two houses were partially damaged, said reports.

The exact estimation of losses would be only available after the revenue department’s field visit to the locality.

The region witnessed a power outage as power lines were snapped by trees. Some reports said there is no electricity in some of the affected areas.
