Kochi: Queen Elizabeth II visited India thrice over the course of her reign – in 1961, 1983 and 1997.

On her third and final visit, she spent six hours in Kochi as well. India was celebrating the fiftieth year of Independence during that time.

Arriving in Kochi, she visited the Mattancherry church- the Paradesi Synagogue, St Francis Church in Fort Kochi and the fishermen colony. The stone laid down by her is still intact in the colony. The natives recall that the queen visited some of the houses in the locality.

Elizabeth also visited the tomb of Vasco Da Gama.
