New Delhi: Union Health Minister Mansuk Mandaviya told the Kerala MPs that 10 lakh doses of Covid vaccines supplied to Kerala have not been utilised. T N Prathapan and Hibi Eden informed that the minister raised this question when they went to file a petition asking for a solution to the vaccine shortage in the state.

The MPs said that Kerala was the first among the states in the country to report Covid and the number of cases is still big. Lockdown is not always a solution and is impractical. The MPs complained to the minister that the central government is not providing the requisite vaccine to the state and that is a serious issue of concern.

The health minister responded that the one million doses of vaccine given to Kerala has not been used yet. He also explained the statistics of vaccines given to various states by the centre. The MPs said that the minister had assured them that the centre is ready to provide more vaccines after using the one million doses provided.

The minister inquired why the Covid cases are not going down in Kerala despite the improved health facilities. The MPs replied that the condition in the state would improve if the vaccination is carried out correctly and the centre need to help by giving adequate vaccines.
