Welfare pensions to be distributed ahead of Onam, says Thomas Isaac
Thiruvananthapuram: Finance Minister Thomas Isaac stated that the measures to distribute social, welfare pensions for the months of May and June has been initiated. The minister said that unlike the previous years when the welfare pensions was distributed during Onam after the Vishu disbursal, it will be distributed ahead of the festival.
Thomas Isaac said that this is being done to ensure that people have money in their hands during the time of Covid crisis and lockdown. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan stated that this was LDF government’s helping hand to the poor in time of distress.
Rs 1165 crore is needed for social security pension and Rs 160 crore is required for the welfare boards. Chief Minister said that this amount has been approved and that it would help 48.5 lakh people in the state. 11 lakh people will get pensions through welfare boards.
People who complete mustering, those who submit life certificates and widows who are asked to submit certificate stating not remarried as on July 22, are eligible for the pension.
Thomas Isaac clarified that those who did not receive their widow pension for October-November months will be given that amount also this time.
