Welfare Party not to align with UDF; to contest Assembly polls alone
Kozhikode: Welfare party has declared that they will not make any alliance with UDF in the coming Assembly polls. Party chairman Hameed Vaniyambalam stated they will contest the polls alone.
Talking to Mathrubhumi News, he revealed that Welfare party will seek the support of secular parties for the polls.
Earlier, the Welfare party confirmed that they have entered into an alliance with UDF only for the local self-government election. The party has been examining the Assembly and Lok Sabha polls in a different angle. Welfare party is not a part of any front. We did not approach any front to make an alliance, added Hameed Vaniyambalam.
Welfare party has already given guidelines to the members for booth level activities ahead of the polls.
“Decision on contesting seats and candidates will be taken after holding discussions within the party. During the last assembly polls, Welfare party contested in 40 seats. We will take a decision on seats after examining the political scenario,” said the party chairman.
“We consider UDF and LDF as secular fronts. At present, we have not held talks with any fronts or parties for an alliance,” he added.
