Kochi: Collectors of Ernakulam, Kozhikode, Malappuram, Wayanad, Kannur, Kottayam, Alappuzha, Idukki and Thrissur have declared Wednesday (14-08-2019) a holiday for all educational institutions in the districts.
The holiday will be applicable to all educational institutions including professional colleges, schools those affiliated to CBSE, ICSE and ISE syllabuses, Kendriya Vidyalayas and anganwadis.
The holiday was announced as several areas in these districts continued to be inundated and relief camps were functioning in several schools.
Kerala State Disaster Management Authority had issued red, orange and yellow alerts in these districts. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that rains in Kerala could intensify in the coming days.
Kerala Public Service Commission (PSC) postponed all department level examinations scheduled to be held on Wednesday. The revised dates will be announced later.
Regarding university and other competitive examinations, officials concerned will make announcements and the candidates are urged to follow them.
Ernakulam Collector S. Suhas said that the holiday was declared as rains were expected to intensify though only a yellow alert was issued in the district on Tuesday.
The collector directed parents exercise caution and keep their children away from waterbodies and other places of danger. He also requested the public not to panic and that the holiday was a precaution in view of the IMD alert.
