Lakkidi: Several students and staff members of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Wayanad were hospitalised after experiencing vomiting and stomach pain.

The students were admitted to Vythiri Taluk Hospital on Sunday night and Monday morning. The first incident was reported on January 24. However, the number of students seeking treatment increased to 66 by Monday. Currently, 98 people from the school, including staff, have sought treatment at Taluk hospital. The health officials said that the condition of those hospitalised remains normal.

Meanwhile, the health officials collected samples from students and dispatched them to Alappuzha Virology Institute and Sultan Bathery Public Health Lab. Further, the Kozhikode Regional Health Lab will test the samples collected to ascertain the quality of drinking water used in school. Though the officials suspect food poisoning, it can be confirmed only after receiving the test results.

Further, the food and safety department conducted inspections in the school and hostel. Officials said there aren't any issues found in the school in the primary investigation. However, they suspect whether the students have contracted any virus infections like Norovirus.
