Idukki: The spillway of the Mullaperiyar Dam in Idukki is likely to be opened on Friday morning as the water level touched 136 feet on Thursday. Following this, authorities issued the first warning on Thursday evening.

The Idukki District Information Office said that if the current inflow continues overnight, there is a possibility to release water from Mullaperiyar Dam through the spillway at 10 am on Friday.

Idukki MLA Roshy Augustine wrote to the Tamil Nadu water resource minister demanding immediate intervention to reduce the water level. Due to the heavy rains in the catchment areas, the water level in Mullaperiyar is rising rapidly, and the water level has been kept as low as possible, he said.

The government of Tamil Nadu has informed that due to the rising water level in Mullaperiyar Dam, water is likely to flow out through the spillway from 10 am.
