Water level in Idukki dam reaches 2396.12; Minister Mani to visit dam
Cheruthoni: Water level in Idukki dam rose to 2396.12 on Thursday morning. This is 91.95 percent of the total water capacity. On Wednesday midnight the water level was 2396.04 ft and on Thursday it became 2396.10 ft. As there is only light rain in the catchment areas, there is no rise in water level like the previous days. Water level rose to only one feet after issuing orange alert.
However, the authority assumes that the shutters will be opened only if rain becomes stronger and water flow into the dam increases. Officials declared that there is no need to open the shutters before the water level reaches 24000 ft. Last year, water level in Idukki dam was 2321.06 ft during the monsoon.
However, minister MM Mani will visit the dam on Thursday. He will summon a meeting at collectorate during the visit. Decision on trial run will be taken in the meeting.
Meanwhile, there is considerable fall in water inflow in Idamalayar dam too. Earlier, water level in Idamalyar dam was 167.15 metres. On Thursday morning a small increase of .05 metre was marked here.
