A visual from the scene-Saji

Rajakkad: Saji, a farmer in Singukandam near Chinnakanal, had a narrow escape from a herd of wild elephants on Monday. The incident had sent chill down one’s spine as the man found solace in a nearby eucalyptus tree for around one-and-half hours.

The incident happened in the morning while the 40-year-old man was on his way to the agricultural land. He encountered a herd of wild elephants.

According to Saji, the tusker charged at him. He rushed to the grassland nearby and managed to climb the eucalyptus tree. Saji thought that the herd would leave soon but was in more trouble as some other wild elephants approached.

He made loud noise to alert the locals. Though the locals tried to drive away the elephants, their attempt failed. They intimated forest officials. They later used crackers to drive them off. Somehow the herd left from the spot and Saji was rescued.
