'Attend minister's event or pay fine': TVM CPI ward member's voice note stokes controversy


Thiruvananthapuram: A panchayat member under Anad panchayat here threatened Kudumbashree members with a slapping fine if the latter did not participate in the inauguration of a bridge in the locality.

Vengavila ward member and CPI leader Sreeja threatened Kudumbashree members to attend the inaugural of Pazhakutty bridge on Sunday evening, failure of which will invite a fine of Rs 100.

Sreeja via a voice note in the WhatsApp group was instructing the Kudumbashree members to arrive at Pazhakutty at 4.30 pm. She informed that the inauguration will be done by minister Mohammed Riyas and those who fail to make it will have to pay a fine of Rs 100.

The voice note surfaced on social media and she courted controversy. Later she claimed that it was just a joke.
