Walayar rape case: Former prosecutor criticises govt; asks why she was replaced
Palakkad: The former prosecutor in the Walayar rape case, Jalaja Madhavan, has hit out against the statements made by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan blaming prosecutors for lapses in the case.
Jalaja said that she only worked as the prosecutor in the case for three months and that she was replaced after intervention by the state Home Ministry. Jalaja initially took to Facebook. She repeated the arguments in a press conference later in the day.
Jalaja stated that she was replaced after she took a stance against the CWC chairman, who appeared for the accused in the case. Jalaja said that she was replaced by someone who reached the position of prosecutor after appearing for a case against the government but was then dismissed from the position after losing the case.
Jalaja also demanded to know why she was removed from the position of the prosecutor in the case.
The Chief Minister cannot speak like any other random person. Prosecution includes the police as well. Instead of calling it a lapse from the prosecutors, the CM should specify who made the mistake and where, she said.
Jalaja added that it was wrong on her part to remain silent in this regard. Jalaja added that she is willing to discuss the issue with anyone.
